Louis Cake

Tuesday, February 16th was one of two things: it was Mardi Gras this year, and it was Rosa's birthday. It was a day of celebration!

Seeming as how the economy has not been too kind, we decided to do a little potluck for Rosa. For lunch, we brought in meats and tortillas for tacos, along with plenty of chips and salsa... And for dessert... excuse me as I collect myself for a moment...

Karina brought in some really yum moist red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and sprinkled with red velvet cupcake crumbs. Heavenly. And Alicia brought in... well what can I call them but, decadence. They were these small pieces of cake wrapped in a shell of chocolate with designs imprinted onto them, from Wholesome Choice market in Irvine.

The flavors ranged in cappuccino, strawberry, mango, passionfruit...

Look at the one in the middle. Is it trying to be a Louis Vuitton?

I chose the passionfruit one to pair with my red velvet cupcake. Oh how quickly they disappeared :(

It's a BRICK... TOAST!

It's mighty-mighty... just lettin' it all hang out!

On a nice little workday evening, I met up with my fellow 'SC alums and former roomies, Anna and Olivia for dinner and dessert at Guppy House and 85[degrees]C Bakery for a little pow-wow. Dinner of rice, some sauteed pork pieces (with skin!), "popcorn" chicken, potato salad and pickled veggies was yum... and then... dessert.

Butter Coconut Brick Toast (4.99) drizzled with chocolate and caramel, with a side of mango ice cream (2.00): "Rich creamy butter coconut spread on homemade thick toast and slowly baked in oven"

Here Anna and Olivia prepare to attack it with a couple of steak knives...

The toast was about 2" thick, and the top 3/4"-1" was a thick sweet crunchy top of a toast, with the bottom half a soft white bread of Hawaiian roll texture and consistency. Bring your sweet tooth, you'll need it!

Claim Jumper. Mud Pie.

You just can't go wrong there.

On a strange nacho fixation, Anna and I took the lazy Friday opportunity to have lunch at Claim Jumper... although it probably wasn't a "lazy Friday" until we made it so...

Lunch was the appetizer Nacho Platter with Steak Chili (9.25) and the Avocado Rolls (9.95) shared between us. It was satisfactory, but not exactly the cap to the week we were hoping for... so decided to go for a dessert as well.

Jumpers Mud Pie: Heath Bar with Caramel Topping (7.95)

Go for it. It's worth it.
